Project Overview

St Margaret’s, a former girls’ school has undergone extensive works as part of a residential conversion into luxury apartments. Phase one of the project involved the complete renovation of the site’s most prominent listed buildings, Baring Lodge, Weststall House and Wynalton House.

Challenges

Faced with the problem of covering some of Exeter’s grandest listed buildings, Ledger Scaffolding needed to deliver complete free-standing scaffolding all enclosed with temporary roofing over multi-levelled roof heights.

Solution

Guided by technical drawings, Scaffolding was assembled 7-metres away from the face of the buildings to create large buttresses. Due to the scale of the buttresses, 18-tonne water containers were needed to weigh down the frame to stop lifting. Extensive Beam work was used to create the apex roofs while a mixture of tin and specially installed shrink wrap coverings were used to protect the buildings from adverse weather conditions.
